Contact Improvisation for Beginners
with Erin Bailey
SUN NOV 22, 12:30 - 1:45 PM EST (SUN NOV 22, 12:30 - 1:45 PM EST)

Contact Improvisation (CI) is an unscripted partnered dance form based on the physics of touch, momentum, gravity, and sharing weight. Developed by Steve Paxton in 1972, this practice encourages dancers to maintain a physical point of contact, rolling, flowing, and shifting weight dynamically without fixed roles of a leader or follower.

In this class, we will introduce weight sharing as a movement "conversation".  We will move slowly to establish trust, and then explore points of contact and safe ways to engage with momentum and gravity. We will practice clear consent and honor physical boundaries as we learn to fall safely by keeping our bodies soft and using limbs as landing gear rather than grabbing a partner's hands.  No previous experience needed.

Attire:

Please wear clean, comfortable clothing with no zippers, buttons, or loose jewelry that could scratch a partner.
