You don't have to be a dancer. You don't have to be flexible. You don't have to be "in shape." And you definitely don't have to know exactly what you're doing.
The Movement Lab @ NOMA is a place to explore what movement can do for you—whether that means getting stronger, feeling less stiff, finding more ease, learning to dance, calming your nervous system, or simply having some fun.
Our classes bring together dance, Pilates, yoga, somatic practices, and other approaches to movement, with experienced instructors who understand that every body is different. You'll find classes that challenge you, classes that slow you down, and classes that invite you to try something entirely new.
If you're not sure where to begin, start with what you're looking for. Our "I want to…" list below is here to help you find your way.
There's no perfect place to start. There's just your starting place.

1. Choose a class and reserve your spot
Browse the schedule and find something that catches your interest. If you're not sure where to start, our "I want to…" guide can help. First-time students can take advantage of our introductory offer.
2. Give yourself a little extra time
Arrive about 10 minutes before class so you can meet your instructor, get settled, and find anything you need for class. If it's your first visit, we'll help you get oriented.
3. Wear something you can move in
Comfortable clothing is all you need. Depending on the class, you may want to bring or purchase grip socks. If you're unsure what to wear for a particular class, just ask us.
4. Let your instructor guide you
You don't need to know the choreography, understand the equipment, or have everything figured out. Your instructor will guide you through the class and offer options when needed. Listen to your body, move at your own pace, and give yourself permission to be a beginner.

Our classes are intentionally small, creating space for individual attention and a sense of connection. You’ll get to know your instructors, meet other people who love to move, and become part of a community that values curiosity over perfection.
Our instructors bring knowledge, curiosity, and a genuine interest in helping you move well. They’ll offer guidance, options, and modifications so you can find an approach that works for your body—not someone else’s.
What if I don't know anyone?
That's completely okay. Many people walk through our doors for the first time not knowing anyone or not knowing quite what to expect. We'll help you get settled, introduce you to your instructor, and make sure you know what you need to know before class begins. You can come by yourself, be new, and take your time finding your place.
Do I need to be fit or have dance experience to join?
Not at all. Our classes welcome people with different bodies, backgrounds, and levels of experience. Some classes are designed specifically for beginners, while others offer options and modifications so you can work at a level that feels appropriate for you. You don't need to arrive already knowing how to move—you just need to be willing to explore.
Yes! New students can take a complimentary introductory class so you can experience The Movement Lab and find out what feels right for you. There's no pressure to commit to anything afterward.
Sign up for the newsletter and the code for the free class will be emailed to you. Don't see it? Check your spam folder. Sometimes it ends up there.
A little bit of everything—and that's part of what makes The Movement Lab different. You'll find different styles of dance, Pilates, yoga, tai chi, and other approaches to movement. Some classes build strength and mobility, some help you slow down and reconnect with your body, and others invite you to dance, play, and explore. Check the current schedule for class descriptions and times.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. We provide mats and most props and equipment. A water bottle is always a good idea. Grip socks are recommended for some classes and are available for purchase at the studio.
Your first class is complimentary, with no pressure or commitment. Choose something that interests you, show up as you are, and let’s move.
